Monogrammed Burlap Placemats

Monogrammed Burlap Placemats

This is an easy and inexpensive gift that can be used for any occasion: Christmas, Bridal Showers, Birthdays, etc.

You will need:
2 yards burlap
5 yards black twill tape, 1 inch wide
6 inch stencil set
3/4 inch stenciling sponge
black acrylic paint
Stich-Witch
Iron
Scissors

What To Do:

1. Cut the burlap into two placemats (about 13 inches long by 10 inches wide)
2. To monogram the placemats, center a letter stencil in the middle of it and secure with masking tape. Slide a scrap piece of paper beneath the burlap.

Dab small amounts of paint into the openings of the stencil using the  sponge. Let dry. Repeat on the other placemat.
Be careful to use an up and down motion and not get any paint under the stencil edges.
 3. To edge the placemat, cut a piece of stitch witch and twill tape the same length as one side of the placemat. Lay the placemat on a towel or ironing board to protect the surface and turn iron on to steam setting.
Place the twill tape and stitch witch halfway underneath the placemat.
Fold one edge on top of the placemat.
Iron the twill tape on both sides of the placemat using the steam setting.
Repeat on all 4 sides of the placemat.
These make a great gift paired with the Sharpie Wine glasses (tutorial found here)
